Creative activities are an integral part of the school program

RBK Global School | 26th July, 2016

Creativity is a key to success in almost everything we do; it is a key component for a healthy, happy life and a core skill to practice with kids. Creative children are better problem solvers and more flexible, which makes them more capable to adapt to hi-tech advances and deal with changes — as well as be able to take advantage of new opportunities.

Creativity is not limited to artistic or musical expressions —it is also essential for math, science, and even emotional and social intelligence. This is why; creative activities become an integral part of the school program. The main purpose of these student activities is to provide opportunities for children to be involved in the life around them. Through such activities students get guidance and also experience leadership control opportunities that help them grow into well-rounded adults. Moreover, activities increase the interactions among students, thus making them confident and strong as an individual.

Generally approved by the principal and under the direct supervision of the staff, activities contribute to the educational objectives of the school and should be organised without interrupting the instructional academic program.

Below are a few activities that can be organised in schools, to boost children’s knowledge and social awareness.

Constructivist learning

Constructivism is basically a theory — based on research and scientific study — about how an individual learns. It says that a person constructs its own understanding and gains insight of the world around, through experiencing things and by reflecting on those visual occurrences.

Even studies shows that constructivist learning is linked with how the brain learns. And it’s well proved that this method of constructivist education is the best way for students to learn. In a classroom, constructivist learning means encouraging and supporting students to use active techniques (real-world problem solving, experiments) to develop more knowledge, and then to reflect on and check about how their understanding is changing, and then discuss the aspects. The teacher makes sure she understands the students’ pre-existing conceptions, and guides the activity to address them and then build on them.

At RBK global school, a workshop on constructivism was anchored by Mr. Gujarati and Mr. Aggrawal , an educational expert from Dissect EduSolutions Ltd.

This particular workshop implemented the play-way / activity method in the most efficient way to induce learning. With the fact that we believe what we see, likewise children learn best when examples from their daily routine lives are used in support of the topics they are educated.

In all, this activity was a success and the school children really enjoyed this method of learning to the fullest.

Best out of waste activity

Reusing and recycling the valuable waste material can result in development of incredible usable products. Instead of putting these waste materials into the dumping areas, various innovative and creative ideas can be put together to create something new and useful.

With this environmental based concept in mind, best out of waste activity is implemented in school to make children aware about environmental issues and how to adopt a more sustainable lifestyle. This activity helps students to learn and progressively understand that natural resources should be used cautiously and carefully, that they could reuse and reprocess the waste material and not always depend on new things.

In order to make children aware about the use of waste material, and to give them learning on reducing waste to save our future, a ‘Best out of Waste’ activity was organised for students at RBKGS – an English medium school in Gujarat.

During this activity, students were asked to prepare decorative objects, from any waste material, using their inspiration, ideas and creativity. Children completely enjoyed the activity and made some real amazing things. Beyond expectation, mind-blowing, fantabulous ideas were demonstrated by students. You can say, their hidden talents and artistic abilities were truly spotted during the competition.

Shape day activity

Shape activities at school help your child develop early math skills. These fun activities encourage your child to identify shapes in real life, produce images with shapes, and draw standard shapes. These shape activities brim with the fun of triangles, polygons and elementary geometry, and will make your child excited about the shapes that surround him/her every day.

Moreover, this kind of activity is crucial to developing spatial visualization abilities and understanding geometry, which involves understanding shapes through visualization.

The RBKGS is one such top school in Gujarat that believes in implementing such creative activities. This activity was held on 24th June 2016 for the K2 grade section. The children really enjoyed this activity and had fun while building math skills!
